Vineyards I-90 PA & NY

Vineyards and orchards line the I-90 highway along a 50 mile stretch between Silver Creek, NY and Harborcreek, PA.

The local climate is perfect for growing grapes. the area was formed by great glaciers during the last ice age.

The glaciers carved out massive trenches and deposited vast amounts of Canadian soil, rocks and boulders. As the temperatures rose and the glaciers melted, the Great Lakes and Chautauqua Lake were created. Left behind on Lake Erie's shore were ridges of soil and gravel. The result is well drained gravel-loam soil excellent for growing grapes.

The lakes have a moderating effect on spring and autumn temperatures which is a chief factor for a superb environment for healthy vines and grapes similar to those found in parts of Germany.
