The Rainbow Tour Part 1
We woke up to beautiful views from our 35th floor room at the Embassy Suites in Canada.
Today at 9am we will be going on the Rainbow Tour which goes back into America and we are to remember to bring our passports.
So at 9am Lori picks us up with bus 119 (have to remember which bus to go back to!) and we head out. Now Lori is a good experienced Tour guide, but she does find it amusing to run up and over curbs. Carol and I sat in way back of the bus and were bumped up and down in our seats a few times. Warning to people with bad backs, tour buses usually seem to have no shocks or springs.
As we head back to the US I snap these photos:
We get to the border and have no problem getting back into the US, we have 10 people on this tour, 2 are Canadians.
Our first stop is The Power Portal under the Falls.
Where we receive our nifty sandals and our new hefty bag outfits.
I liked this part best, I liked the ramps and to be able to get so close to the falls. I would have loved to have brought a lawn chair and just sat there in the mist and the roar of the falls. But then you start looking to see how well the structure is built.....
"Today, the "Cave of the Winds" is the name of a tourist attraction near the same site. An elevator takes people from the area between the American and Canadian Falls down to the level of the Niagara River at the base of the American Falls. A series of redwood decks and platforms allow sightseers to walk right up to the base of the Bridal Veil Falls with water crashing down right on them and flowing beneath the decking.
The decking is removed each fall due to the potential damage caused by ice buildup at the falls and re-installed each spring by park officials for sightseers to enjoy the experience. The decking is not secured to the rocks below by bolts or other construction materials; the wood beam supports are simply wedged into the rock crevices."
Simply wedged??? And yes, I stuck my hand in it, and the water was warm.
